Now, he is 58, but looks as if he is about 35. In 1979, when Belarusian Yakov Tsiperovich was 26, his first wife intended to poison him, driven by jealousy. The attempt failed, but he ended up in the intensive care: clinical death, coma for almost a week. After he woke up he recognized neither environment nor himself.

He felt that all his thoughts were “replaced”. His head was filled with knowledge he could not possibly know from before. It was a real cascade of new ideas that appear in a poetic form, which were totally unfamiliar to him. He did not understand most of it, but he just let it go through his mind. He saw a different world around, everything seemed clear. He started to see causes and effects of different events, understood what was what, and this comprehension was a result of a holistic perception rather than a product of thoughts. He felt urgently that he was no longer the man he used to be before.

Some people, after having experienced some traumatic or critical events, feel that their souls have changed. The process is usually accompanied by alteration of habits, character etc. Something greater happen to Jacob; he did not recognize his own body. Sometimes, when he touched his arms or legs, he felt that they were unfamiliar to him. It was strange to feel that his arm reacted on his commands differently. But strange things continue to happen.

After he came back to his normal life, he suddenly found out that he could not sleep. It did not feel great at all. Sensation was the same as in people with insomnia: he was sleepy, but could not make himself go to bed. Unlike insomnia, when you passively lay in the bed and cannot fall asleep, Yakov could not make himself lay down. He felt that some force brought him up and made him sit in the bed. As soon as he drowsed, some click in the head made him get awake. It was a real nightmare and a constant fight to be able to find a moment of oblivion in the sleep. It continued for a week, month, year. He was scared as he was sure that his body could not bear such tension.

Then the situation turned. He started to feel powerful, muscles to grow by themselves, weight to normalize. He experienced a great power that came as if from somewhere within. He did not feel tired anymore. Once, when trying to make himself tired, he decided to test his physical limits: he did 10,000 pushups during nine hours with some breaks, but could not exhaust himself to fall asleep.

Lack of sleep did not feel as a physical suffering anymore, he had only psychological dependency (“a human being must sleep”). Insomnia became easy to deal with. A difficult process of a new body formation came to an end followed by a new period of development, just as a child is growing discovering new possibilities and gaining power. Another extraordinary ability revealed itself a few years later. When he met his classmates and friends of the same age, who got bold, gray-haired and wrinkly, he noticed to his great surprise that he kept being in the same young physical condition. His body conserved itself, something that was probably caused by a clinical death that deprived him from sleep.

Yakov did not feel stream of time anymore. There was no separation between the night and the day, they were as one for him. Live felt like one long day, and this sensation of timelessness was a result of the process when the body does not obey aging any longer.

His body temperature had been 34 C for a long time, and only during the last year it raised to 35 C. In other words, his body fell in hibernation, when metabolism was kept down to minimum.

And what science, and medicine in particular, says about it? Maybe Tsipherovich phenomenon might give a recipe of eternal life? Plus extraordinary physical abilities and free time for self-realization, work, creativity? Unfortunately, the science has nothing to say.

Nobody showed interest in studying closer his abilities. He needed to ask to conduct experiments with taking EEG and take tests. The problem was that he had a perfect health condition, and tests did not show any abnormalities. Once, he was even accused of pretending. He was refused to be looked closer in several medical institutions and, instead, vent to visit people with extrasensory abilities. In the famous Institute of the Human Brain of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, Russia, he was told that “a lot of people cannot sleep, there can be different reasons”. Academics just laughed in his face and said that they had more serious problems to work at. He was even in the University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, where they have a Sleep Lab. The doctors connected electrodes and made a computer tomography of the brain just to ensure that he really did not sleep. He spent a whole week in that lab, but no pathology was found.

But how can you dispose such a gift, additional eight hours of free time in combination with an excellent physical condition?

Yakov does not utilize this time in any specific way; he just lives. Besides, for him it is normal time, not extra time, which he fills with normal activities. Of course, he cannot do something noisy when everyone is sleeping, that’s why he reads, writes and thinks during this time. Lately, he has been spending his time to learn to sleep, but not in a regular way. He learned to turn off the outside world with the help of meditation techniques. Earlier, during the first years of his insomnia, he fought it in a different way – with the help of a lot of sleeping pills. His body won the battle; the sleep did not come, he felt only weak and depressed. He dropped sleeping drugs almost immediately. He admits that he still wants to become a normal person who is able to sleep.

Yakov writes poems, which he has collected a lot. Their content is usually lyrical and philosophical. Japanese and French have made documentaries about the Cipherovich phenomenon; he was written in newspapers about too. However, it did not make his life easier. People come to him and ask questions, he receives a lot of calls, which disturbs his solicited lifestyle. Some sect members even tried to break into his apartment and demanded a meeting with him.

Now, Tsiperovich lives in Germany, where he is, from time to time, an object of the German scientists’ study, but they cannot tell either why in his struggle fro survival this miracle happened.

The human brain begins to age not at 60 but already at 45. This sensational statement was made by British scientists. According to them, this is the age a person starts to notice that it is more difficult to concentrate, to work at night, to solve complex problems.

It happens simply because the neurons are not involved in the thinking process, die. As a result, the brain goes down in its mass, literary losing its weight. Therefore, it is recommended to keep the brain in a good shape.

Do we really start to think less at 45, get less curious and intelligent? But the brain functions worsen indeed if people strain it only occasionally. We can draw an analogy with the muscles here, which waste away when we do not use them properly.

Despite the fact that people in today’s world get a lot of information, this could not be considered as a workout for the mind. It is like in a gym where we cannot develop our muscles just looking at other people busy with weighs and training devices.

That is why we have to do something requiring more efforts. For example, solve crossword puzzles and writing the words that you have guessed. We can also memorize poems or learn foreign languages. All of this will leave a positive impact on brain functions.

Every time when we are engaged in some serious activity, the corresponding part of the brain becomes strained, and it improves blood circulation. Some prefer drugs, others may prefer alternating douche or something else, but intellectual effort is the best option given us by nature.

Music has a fundamental affect on humans. It can reduce stress, enhance relaxation, provide a distraction from pain, and improve the results of clinical therapy. New research published in BioMed Central’s open access journal Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery demonstrates that music can reduce rejection of heart transplants in mice by influencing the immune system.

The link between the immune system and brain function is not clearly understood, nevertheless music is used clinically to reduce anxiety after heart attack, or to reduce pain and nausea during bone marrow transplantation. There is some evidence that music may act via the parasympathetic nervous system, which regulates the bodily functions that we have no conscious control over, including digestion.

Researchers from Japan investigated if music could influence the survival of heart transplants in mice. They found that opera and classical music both increased the time before the transplanted organs failed, but single frequency monotones and new age music did not.

The team led by Dr Masanori Niimi pinpointed the source of this protection to the spleen. Dr Uchiyama and Jin revealed, “Opera exposed mice had lower levels of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and interferon gamma (IFN-γ). They also had increased levels of anti-inflammatory IL-4 and IL-10. Significantly these mice had increased numbers of CD4+CD25+ cells, which regulate the peripheral immune response.”

It seems that music really does influence the immune system — although the mechanism behind this still is not clear. Additionally, this study only looked at a limited selection of composers, so the effect of music on reducing organ rejection may not be limited to opera.

Guinness World Records says Tuesday Mary Hardison of Ogden is officially the oldest female to paraglide tandem. The previous record was held by a 100-year-old woman from Cyprus.

Hardison took the tandem flight with an instructor in September while her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren watched.

Hardison says she remains busy because it helps her stay healthy and happy. She decided to paraglide because her 75-year-old son was doing it as a hobby, and she says she couldn’t let him do something she didn’t at least try.

Hardison says she is always excited for new challenges. For her 90th birthday, she rode all of the rides at Disneyland.

A young Irish boy is recuperating at home in Cork – after a bionic ear operation in Manchester. Calum Geary, just three years of age, made history when he travelled to Britain for the revolutionary surgery. He will undergo therapy at the John Tracy clinic in the United States once he has recovered from the operation last month.

Surgeons implanted a special ‘microchip’ device in his head, aimed at transferring sound messages from his ears to his brain. Born without hearing nerves in his ears, Calum is the first Irish child to undergo the bionic hearing implant surgery. Calum and his non-identical twin brother Donnacha were born on 19 November 2008.

Calum underwent the surgery in Manchester. He was born with a condition known as Cochlear Nerve Aplasia (CNA) which previously meant a child was left deaf for life. “On one day, an officer from Great Manchester Police arrived at the hospital with a special letter of commendation for Calum because of his bravery,” revealed dad Andrew.

Mum Helen said: “We have been absolutely floating on the amount of love and kindness shown to us.

Just 141 children worldwide have benefitted from the Auditory Brainstem Implant technique. “The device basically replicates the ear and nerves and will connect directly to the brainstem,” said dad Andrew.

“No one really understands exactly how or why it works but the procedure has worked for other children and given them a crucial level of hearing.”

WHILE aging is inevitable, science-based skin care products are now available to reduce the signs of aging. The KINERASE Skin Care System utilizes kinetin, a potent bio-growth factor derived from plants, to improve the appearance of wrinkles and rejuvenate sun-damaged skin without causing irritation.

“Our almost three decades of research has shown that kinetin exerts powerful effects in delaying several signs of skin aging,”1 said Prof. Suresh Rattan, a noted biogerontologist (expert in the biology of aging) and considered the “Father of Kinetin.”

Rattan, currently the Head of the Laboratory of Cellular Aging, Department of Molecular Biology, Aarhus University, Denmark, was the keynote speaker during the KINERASE Skin Care System media launch held on March 8, 2012 at the Best Western Premier F1 Hotel, 32nd Street, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

“We welcome the Philippine launch of the KINERASE Skin Care System. A growing body of scientific evidence supports the efficacy and safety of kinetin in improving wrinkles and sun-damaged skin,” said Dr. Rosalina E. Nadela, vice president of the Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS).

The anti-aging properties of kinetin were first discovered when scientists found that it prevented plant leaves from drying out and withering. Kinetin also slows down over-ripening and degeneration of fruits.1

A study conducted by independent American researchers with no financial interests in KINERASE and published in the respected, peer-reviewed journal Cosmetic Dermatology found that 12 to 24 weeks of treatment with KINERASE “significantly improved the appearance of skin texture, mottled hyperpigmentation, and fine wrinkles (as well as) restored normal skin barrier function.”
